Shidduch Dating Advice: Some Questions Posed by Rav Shmuel Rozovsky
by Rafael (Rafi) Hecht • • 2 Comments
One day a Jew from Yerushalayim traveled to Bnei Brak to ask the legendary Rosh Yeshiva of Ponevezh, Rav Shmuel Rozovsky, about a boy in the Yeshiva for his daughter who reached eligible age.
He asked the Rosh Yeshiva the following:
- How many hours a day did the boy learn?
- Was he punctual in arriving to Seder and did he spend his time diligently?
- Did he come to davening on time and did he actively participate in Shiur?
- Did he ask relevant questions and did he understand the answers?
After receiving a favorable report in regard to his questions he thanked Rav Shmuel for his time and began to leave. At that point Rav Shmuel in his gentle and noble manner turned to father and said, until now you asked me questions, is it okay if I ask you some questions? The father agreed.

Jewish Whiskey Boycott – Scotch Whiskey
by Rafael (Rafi) Hecht • • 2 Comments
Recently there was a counter-boycott placed on Scottish whiskey by Jews as Scotland has become anti-Israel and boycotts their products.
In the words of the Dunbarton Reporter, a British news site:
ANGRY Israeli nationals have launched a counter-boycott against Scotch Whisky companies, including Dumbarton’s Chivas Brothers.
The move was arranged by a group of online bloggers in response to West Dunbartonshire Council’s (WDC) decision to ban the importation of any goods manufactured or produced in the Middle-eastern state.
Chivas, which operates the Kilmalid bottling plant in Dumbarton, and the Loch Lomond Distillery are among the Whisky manufacturers from the area that have been targeted in the latest action taken to try and overturn the ban.
A spokesperson from Chivas said: “West Dunbartonshire Council does not represent the views of Chivas Brothers. We will be passing on any correspondence on this subject to West Dunbartonshire Council so they are fully aware of the potential implications of their policy.”
Well excuse me, but this has nothing to do with Israel. It has to do with Jews. When Israel is hit with a boycott, Jews of all nationalities unite. Before the state of Israel, people used to be more blatant about Judaism, and pogroms and expulsions were common. Today, Israel seems to get in the way of that, therefore the world hates Israel and would rather it not exist.
I can see it eventually happening where scotch is dropped from all the Kiddush clubs around the world. Say hello to bourbon, Canadian, Vodka and beer!

If Jerusalem is not divided, why are the Analytics implying such?
Tasters Choice – Ah Gevaldike Kave!
by Rafael (Rafi) Hecht • • 0 Comments
Years ago (1998-2000), I remember when the Agudah Shul on Avenue L and Nostrand Avenue in Flatbush was undergoing some serious renovations. Many of the Mexican workers on location would then take coffee from the shul’s kitchen while working.
Now, for a while Taster’s Choice was the preferred coffee since it tasted good and was more expensive than the other coffees. As a result, the Mexican workers would take that and there would be nothing left for any of the Daveners.
