Recently I came across a couple of shared videos that make fun of Taglit Birthright tourists. What I got was a very accurate idea of how Israelis perceive Anglo Jews.
It’s very clear. Women have to sit in the back of buses, everyone acts giddy with “their emotions on their shoulder,” sloppy eating habits, and everyone is a tourist with a poor nasal accent. There’s one fat guy exclaiming randomly, “effing awesome, yeah!!!”
As an American with Israeli roots, I’m not offended at all. I guess it’s payback for all the times we make fun of them!
Next time I visit I’ll make sure to bring a bag of “emmm and emmms…..” Hopefully it’s Badatz certified
