The city of Beit Lechem lies approximately five miles south of Yerushalayim. The beautiful mountains, meadows and valleys probably look much the same as they did in Biblical times with their vineyards, olive groves and sheep wandering about. It was in these fields that the story of Rus took place. It is also the place where Dovid Ha’melech was born.
The modern town retains a bit of its ancient flavor with its narrow streets, burdened donkeys and large fields surrounding it. Today more than 30,000 Moslems and Christian Arabs live here.
